Gentle Annies to Berlin Cafe& Bar, Buller Gorge

31st January cont.

The slow day had to speed up because we could not access the fresh water tap at the campsite. Our water tank was very low, as there wasn’t a potable water tap at the place where we dumped our waste. We never imagined that we would not be able to access water at a campsite, our hose was not long enough and they didn’t have on they could lend us!! Gentle Annies seems to be geared to campers, so the idyllic campsite was not so idyllic after all!  There was also a severe weather warning for tonight and tomorrow so we thought it prudent to move inland. We drove back down the road to Westport, filled up with freshwater then set off up the Buller Gorge. I had identified the Berlin Cafe and Bar as a possible place to stay and it proved to be good.

 Lower Buller Gorge

We arrived early afternoon, Michael went for a walk and I got my lace out!  In the afternoon we parked up on the bluff with a view over the river, then before dinner we moved down to a more sheltered spot.
We ate in the bar! Very good fish and chips and salad, and were able to watch the weather forecast on the TV. We were going to experience the tail end of a tropical cyclone, with very heavy rain and very high winds to gales forecast
Weather: sun, slight drizzle, cloud
Total Km: 77

1st February.
